EDSA Introduces Paladin DesignBase 1.2; The First Modeling Environment Optimized for On-Line Deployment
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (May 25, 2007) – EDSA Micro Corporation today unveiled Paladin DesignBase Version 1.2, the only electrical power systems modeling platform optimized for on-line deployment. As a result of this dramatic new software release, power systems models created using Paladin DesignBase 1.2 can be easily modified to operate in "live mode," meaning that:
- The designer's intent no longer stops at the deploment phase: it becomes embedded in live operations
- Live operational data are comparied to the design model -- down to the most intricate specifications of the smallest compnents -- millions of times per second, to ensure operations are "on spec."
- As equipment changes are made, the design model can assimilate those changes... meaning that the model remains continually updated, even years after the design is released/
.“Paladin DesignBase 1.2 is the only power systems modeller to enable designers to create highly robust models... and then repdeploy those models in live mode,” said Adib Nasle, president of EDSA. “Imagine if a mechanical CAD program used to design an automotive brake assembly could tell each car owner how well his brakes are performing, when they'll need maintenance, and how many miles are left on the pads; well, that is precisely what this new release of Paladin DesignBase makes it easy to do within electrical power infrastrcuture..”
Beyond its revolutionary "live" capability, Paladin DesignBase package 1.2 also contains nearly three times the design and simulation functions of competing packages. With this new release, it takes enormous strides in five major areas:
- Ease-of-Use: the new version encapsulates more than 900 different power systems engineering features, functions, and operations – three times its nearest competitor – into an easy-to-learn graphical user interface, developed in conjunction with Autodesk, Inc. Engineers familiar with products like AutoCAD and Visio will find Paladin DesignBase extremely easy to learn and use.
- Advanced Productivity Features: The new version of Paladin DesignBase include more than 6000 commonly-used, pre-configured intelligent objects than can be “dragged-and-dropped” onto the workspace, and automatically connected to other objects using EDSA’s “Plugs and Sockets” connection technology. A “complex components” feature allows large portions of the electrical model to be saved as a single object, and easily re-used elsewhere in the project or in other projects.
- “Master Model” Architecture: Once a power systems design is created using Paladin DesignBase, the resulting model can be re-used as the basis for downstream simulation (e.g. fault analysis, arc flash, protection coordination) and refinement of the design (e.g. power flow, power quality analysis, power systems optimization) using 50 task-specific Paladin DesignBase “Solutions Modules.”
- Team-Based Architecture – Once created, “Master Model” can concurrently shared and simultaneously used by multiple members of the engineering team. This enables the concurrent engineering progress on numerous parts of the project… rather than the tedious sequential process required of other packages. As a result, projects are completed faster and with greater collaboration that ever before.
- Deployable Design for Diagnostics – Models created using Paladin DesignBase can be easily redeployed in on-line mode – using EDSA’s Paladin Live platform – to ensure than live facilities are operating as they were intended to in the design phase. With the new release of Paladin DesignBase, it is even easier for user to migrate to Paladin Live… extending the life of their design model, and diagnosing the health of power systems infrastructure.
Other New Features
Some of the other new features and functions incorporated in the new release of Paladin DesignBase include:
- EDSA’s Protective Device Coordination package now comes with an array of new features including professional report, direct injection of PDC data in the model, fuse interpolation, enable/disable protective device function, tripping time display directly onto the drawing, professional report.
- The Arc Flash package now includes maximum tripping time field, global grounding control, custom report and new design of user dialog screens
- The Advanced Composite Power System Reliability Assessment package provides a state-of-the-art evaluation of power system reliability with unlimited system size
- The Advanced Substation Grounding Grid package features a new plotting interface
- The DC Power Flow package comes with continuous load for battery and charger sizing
- The Battery and Charger Sizing package integrated with DC network models has altitude derating factor for charger sizing
- The Advanced Power Cable Ampacity packages features professional report and cyclic and emergency loading options
- New functions in EDSA Editor help to manage large projects
- New metric library with overhead lines and feeder data
- New harmonic converter source
About Paladin Products
The Paladin family of power systems engineering products are used by thousands of commercial, industrial, governmental, and military customers worldwide, to protect more than $100 billion in customer assets.
Based on a patented “Design/ Diagnose/ Deploy,” process, the Paladin product family consists of 1) the Paladin DesignBase power systems modeling package, which creates a “master model” for all other Paladin applications; 2) more than 50 Paladin “Solutions Modules” to diagnose and validate the DesignBase model; and 3) Paladin Live, which compares DesignBase model specifications to live operational data… in order to make highly-accurate predictions about when and where electrical power problems have the potential to impact operations.
Paladin products meet the uncompromising quality standards of the International Standards Organization (ISO), the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), the Nuclear Procurement Issues Committee (NUPIC), the Department of Defense (DoD), NATO, Det Norske Veritas (DNV), the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and others.
